"Fusion of traditional Japanese culture"
I'm Suzuki, president of STUDIO RYU.
I'm from Osaka, but came to Iwate when I was young and met some wonderful traditional crafts.
It has been 14 years since I started my business.
The culture of Iwate that impressed me most is "lacquer".
The Japanese lacquer industry has begun to be recognized around the world, and its beauty attracts people all over the world.
On the other hand, Iwate also has Nanbu Tekki.
Iwate's iron technology has long been recognized throughout Japan.
We are making new interiors and accessories using this lacquer and iron.
I want to continue to show the charm of traditional Japanese crafts.
Please come to the shop and see our products.Thank you.

mission:
Challenge the world with traditional crafts in Iwate
70% of Japanese lacquer is made in Ninohe City.
Japanese lacquer is used in large quantities to restore cultural properties such as temples and shrines.
In Japan, lacquer is widely known as tableware, but is originally a raw material for paints and adhesives.
Generally used for high-grade iron pots and samurai armor. But we use lacquer for accessories.
The combination of wood and lacquer is common, but iron and lacquer are rare.

Culture of "lacquer" and "iron" inherited from ancient times in Japan
IRON
The history of Nambu Tekki dates back to the Edo period and has been handed down for about 400 years. Known mainly for its iron kettles and wind chimes, the tea ceremony is so popular that it is said to be "NANBU iron kettle".
The most distinctive feature of Nanbu Tekki is the handle (TSURU), and this forging technique is really attractive.
Japanese natural lacquer
Japanese lacquer that has been used for 5,500 years. It was also used for armor and shrines and temples, and the European people who were fascinated by their beautiful lacquerware came to called “JAPAN”
Japanese paint = lacquerware = "JAPAN"
Since ancient times, the deep luster of lacquer and the extraordinary strength have been optimized for iron and wood coatings. They have been used in traditional architecture and samurai armor.
STUDIO RYU enhances the artistic value of iron with these traditional techniques.
